What to Expect from Therapy

Starting therapy is a powerful step—but it's important to understand that real change takes time. Many clients come hoping for quick results, and while it’s normal to want relief right away, therapy is a process that unfolds over multiple sessions. Most mental health concerns—like anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, OCD, or stress—require ongoing work to understand patterns, build new skills, and create lasting change.

Research consistently shows that evidence-based therapies such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) are effective for a wide range of mental health conditions. But these results don’t happen overnight. Therapy works best when it’s collaborative, consistent, and personalized—and when clients are open to learning, reflection, and practice between sessions.
You can expect a respectful, supportive environment where we’ll work together to explore your concerns, develop coping tools, and set realistic goals. Most people begin to notice meaningful change within several sessions, though deeper work often continues over months.

Whether you're struggling with anxiety, depression, OCD, ADHD, autism, or functional neurological symptoms, I tailor treatment to your unique needs using therapies grounded in current psychological science.
My husband and I went to see Dr. Weinberg this weekend for the first time. We entered the room feeling pretty delflated, quite at odds with each other and highly uncertain as to what to do next. Dr. Weinberg was fantastic, he listened without judgement and offered practical, realistic advice. He was a gentle yet skilled mediator and was fair and pragmatic to both of us, while offering authentic empathy and real solutions. He is professional but not at all cold. We both felt very comfortable with him and we left feeling a renewed sense of hope for the future of our marriage. We plan to put his solutions and advice to good use, and we will definitely see him again. I highly recommend Dr. Weinberg.
I have been going through a very difficult breakup with my fiance. Dr. Weinberg tried to work with us both, but my fiance felt he definitely wanted to leave. Since then Dr. Weinberg had been a source of support to me as I go through this devastating time in my life. He is like my rock. He listens so well and has suggested strategies for dealing with the pain, anger and grief I am feeling. If you're going through any kind of relationship difficulty, you won't regret working with Dr. Weinberg.
Dr. Weinberg was very helpful with our daughter who had been diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder. He provided her with education around the diagnosis and taught her some simple, but effective skills to cope with her emotions in more productive and less self-desructive ways. My daughter regards Dr. Weinberg as a life-saver and we are very grateful for his expertise and his patiencs and compassion. If your child is cutting or engaging in other self-destruction behaviour, we highly regarded Dr. Weinberg. He is one of the best psychologists working with BPD and cutting in Vancouver.
